Arthrosonography of the painful hip

Clin Radiol. 1984 Jan;35(1):17-9. doi: 10.1016/s0009-9260(84)80219-6.

Abstract

Examination of the hip using ultrasound is described with anatomical correlation. Thirty patients with painful hips were examined; an effusion was detected in 16. Aspiration of the hip joint in 15 patients confirmed the ultrasound findings; there were no false positives or false negatives. In at least 12 patients the management was significantly influenced by the results of ultrasound examination.
