Development of a 3D-immunofluorescence analysis for sensory nerve endings in human ligaments
2022, Journal of Neuroscience MethodsCitation Excerpt :Histological studies have exemplified the characteristic staining patterns of S100, p75 and PGP 9.5 in human mechanoreceptors (Hagert et al., 2004; Lee et al., 2012; Rein et al., 2013; Rein et al., 2015). The combination of multiple antibodies depicts mechanoreceptors more accurately than monostaining, as they highlight different structures of mechanoreceptors (Stark et al., 2001; Del-Valle et al., 1998; Lee et al., 2012, Rein et al., 2013; Cobo et al, 2021). Whereas staining 50 µm thick sections on glass sides seems to suffice for adequate antibody penetration depth (Jew et al., 2003), the present study favored staining free-floating sections.
