The profiles of the three patients with ALS are: [1] a 68-year-old woman with a disease duration of 1 year; [2] an 83-year-old man with a disease duration of 8 months; and [3] a 67-year-old woman with a disease duration of 15 months. The profiles of the three control subjects are: [1] a 78-year-old man with pancreatic cancer; [2] a 68-year-old man with dilated cardiomyopathy; and [3] a 71-year-old woman with Parkinson's disease.
