Table 2 Change in response to treatment in the Disease Activity Score 28 (DAS28) and Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index (HAQ) in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis
Duration of rheumatoid arthritis (years)
<1010–19.9⩾20
Mean baseline DAS286.16.06.1
Mean change in DAS28−1.2−0.8−1.0
Mean baseline HAQ1.311.481.40
Mean change in HAQ−0.36−0.22−0.13
  • Responses were measured after either 1 month (for patients treated with corticosteroids) or 4 months (all others). The DAS28 can range from 0 to 10, with scores above 5.1 considered to represent highly active rheumatoid arthritis. HAQ scores can range from 0 to 3.0, with higher scores indicating more functional limitations.
