Abstract

Background Spanish Rheumatology League (Liga Reumatolόgica Española, LIRE) is developing an application for mobile devices and web browsers that incorporates a map of resources for rheumatic patients and professionals who treat them (Reumappa). This app helps locate with ease professionals and specialized services in rheumatic pathologies in Spain.

Objectives Identify and prioritize resources to be included in Reumappa.

Methods Focus group with characteristic rheumatic diseases patients (Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoporosis, Sjögren, Scleroderma, Spondylarthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Behcet's disease, Lupus, and Osteoarthritis), sex (4 male, 6 female), age (3<45, 5 between 45 and 65, 2>65) and years of disease progression (4<10, 6>10). Key question for identification: “If you could use an app to obtain information about professionals, services or useful things to cope better with your condition what would you expect to find in it?” Prioritization was established by scoring from 0 = no relevance to 10 = maximum relevance.

Results Resources that patients identified as important to help them with their disease and their appraisals according to their relevance (mean, SD) are in table 1.

Conclusions There are a number of resources that can be helpful for rheumatic patients. Among professional resources most popular medical specialists are rheumatologists, ophthalmologists, pediatricians, gastroenterologists and dermatologists; nonmedical professionals that are considered most necessary are physiotherapists and psychologists. Services identified as most important are patient associations, units specialized in specific pathologies, orthopedics stores and gyms.
