2019, The Autoimmune DiseasesComparison of two extractable nuclear antigen testing algorithms: ALBIA versus ELISA/line immunoassay
2016, PathologyCitation Excerpt :There are several methods of ENA testing including counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIEP), enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and line immunoassay (LIA), each with their own advantages and disadvantages in cost, sensitivity, specificity and labour requirement/capacity for automation. Unfortunately, there is no one ideal test that is both highly sensitive and highly specific for anti-ENA antibodies,14 and many laboratories in Australia traditionally follow The European Consensus Workshop's recommendation that ENA testing should be performed by two or more methods.15 In practice, most laboratories participating in the Royal College of Pathologists Quality Assurance Programs (RCPA QAP) have chosen to use an ELISA-based screening method for its high sensitivity, simplicity, convenience, and rapid turnaround time, while using a more specific test (e.g., CIEP or LIA) for confirmation (50/86 labs screen with ELISA and confirm with a second method, e.g., ELISA/LIA/FEIA/CIEP; source, RCPA QAP 2015 reports).14
