PARE0005 Summer Seminar Organized by Estonian RHEUMATISM Association for Patients with Rheumatic Diseases

Abstract

Background There are approximately 250 thousand people in Estonia who suffer from bone and join diseases at any stages. Patients with long-term chronic diseases have always been a priority in the Health Insurance Fund but due to that it also has a negative impact on government's budget in general. This is because patients with chronic diseases are usually not capable of remaining active in laboring market. As an umbrella organization we have twelve sub-organizations with 819 members in total. The project is aimed at 100 active members, voulenteers, board members and management team, which offers all the participants to share experiences about rheumatic diseases, take part in lectures and communicate with eachother in general. One of main roles for organizing summer seminar is to bring provincial member associations together and offer them opportunity to make new relations.

All the activities are divided between two days containing various lectures and workshops. Topics are even deeply discussed in workshops where participants can have immediate feedback.

Objectives The summer seminar was held on 1-2nd november 2013. The main objective of the project is to improve quality of life among participants by educating them in topics related to bone and joint diseases etc. Secondly, it is necessary to improve cooperation between member organizations and professionals in order to enrich the knowledge about management and organizing projects.

Methods Participants will have an opportunity to learn about alternative medicine for improving their health. All the topics are being treated in workshops and lectures. All the activites are mainly practical.

Results About 100 people with various bone and joint diseases will become more aware about coping with the chronic diseases, which improves the overal quality of life for the participants. After the seminar, sub-organizations are more eager to work together with common problems and prepare projects to implement new ideas.

Conclusions In conclusion, Estonian Rheumatism Association has an opportunity to gather feedback from the participants to improve the following events directed to our members.
