Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease of unclear aetiology. It is generally viewed as a Th1 mediated inflammatory disease with a prelidiction for the lung, lymph nodes and skin. There is striking genetic variations in disease prevalence and disease progression. There is a lack of prognostic markers of disease progression. This presentation will review the current paradigm of sarcoidosis pathogenesis and discuss recent advances in our understanding of the spectrum of disease phenotype and outcome.
